The SpringBoard Bursary Foundation

SpringBoard transforms the lives of disadvantaged children through full bursaries at state and independent boarding schools .

We help children to:

  • raise their aspirations
  • reach their full potential
  • lead confident, thoughtful and satisfying lives.

Our work

We work with our partners to find eligible pupils. We’re looking for those who would really gain from our help: it’s not about finding the most gifted.

We work with accredited boarding schools to match each pupil to the right school for them.

We make sure each pupil receives high quality help and support, year round.

We encourage pupils to spread the word about their experiences and to inspire their siblings and friends.

We increase social mobility by widening educational opportunities.

On 1 July, SpringBoard will merge with the Royal National Children's Foundation (RNCF) to create the UK's biggest boarding school bursary charity.

What Are People Saying

Growing up in one of the toughest inner-city areas in the country, I understand personally how access to a quality education can change a young person’s life. That is why I support Springboard Bursary Foundation for providing students from all backgrounds with the opportunity to lift themselves from their current obstacles towards a brighter future. I have no doubt that I would not be an MP today were it not for the opportunity to study at a state boarding school.

Rt Hon David Lammy MP, Member of Parliament for Tottenham

There are a number of disadvantaged and looked-after children who could benefit from an expansion in boarding. I strongly welcome the creation of The SpringBoard Bursary Foundation, and believe it will play a vital role in widening opportunity among some of Britain’s most deprived communities.

Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Former Secretary of State for Education

As someone who was able to attend a boarding school thanks to a foundation dedicated to the welfare of disadvantaged children, I know how independent, grassroots schemes like this can transform a young person’s life for the better. I am delighted to endorse The SpringBoard Bursary Foundation.

Lord Adonis, former Minister for Schools

The SpringBoard Bursary Foundation is an excellent initiative that has the potential to transform the lives of hundreds of young people. It is exactly the type of approach we want to encourage in London, bringing state and independent schools together to raise aspirations and broaden opportunities for all children, regardless of background.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London 2008-2016
